“I know that in the dark, there’s a fear of letting go….”

Well for those of you that have been reading this blog for a while, you might remember last year’s post about how I pick a theme for each year. Well, I am a little late getting started for 2013, but after thinking on it and listening to quite a bit of music I came across several songs today that reinforced what I had already been considering: Letting Go.

Oh my love
help me open my heart again
tear it open let the rain fall in
wash this hardness underneath my skin.

Oh my love
let me hear your voice come through
I wanna know the love inside of you
make this dark heart believe in what is true.

I know that in the dark there’s a fear of letting go,
I know that in my heart that I fear what I don’t know.
And this feels like I’m letting go,
and this feels like I’m letting go,
I’m letting go.

It’s hard to trust
when your heart’s been broken times before
you pull the curtains and you lock the doors
swear you’ll never go out anymore.

I know that in the dark there’s a fear of letting go,
I know that in my heart that I fear what I don’t know.
And this feels like I’m letting go,
and this feels like I’m letting go,
I’m letting go.

Well I’m stepping out
I can’t see and there is no sound,
a seeming void becomes a solid ground,
I sight I lost becomes a faith I’ve found.

And this feels like I’m letting go,
and this feels like I’m letting go,
I’m letting go.

To be perfectly honest, this year has kind of gotten off to a rocky start. Not business wise, but personally I (and several friends) have experienced loss and sadness…and we are only 10 days in. Repeatedly, I have had this image of me standing in the rain with my hands open toward the sky. I don’t know if this will mean letting go of things I hold onto tightly, or accepting whatever God has for me this year (hard times or good)…probably both.

I know that 2013 will have some fun adventures as well, and I just want to embrace whatever road we go down fully, no matter what it holds.

“It’s everything you wanted, it’s everything you don’t
It’s one door swinging open and one door swinging closed
Some prayers find an answer
Some prayers never know
We’re holding on and letting go
Yeah, letting go”

-Ross Copperman
